On May 12, MA Xinge, Secretary of the Party Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, SHE Junjun, Assistant Dean, and other experts visited the iHarbour Academy of Frontier Equipment to discuss about deep integration of medical and engineering, talent training & joint interaction, and technical equipment core work such as continuous innovation of technical equipment and clinical transformation of knowledge achievements. CHEN Xuefeng, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering and iHarbour Academy for Frontier Equipment, SHAO Jinyou, Deputy Dean, and teacher representatives of related disciplines attended the discussion.
Before the meeting, CHEN Xuefeng led everyone to visit the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education of Modern Design & Rotor Bearing System and the Manufacturing Big Data & Intelligent Manufacturing Research Center of the iAFE. Both parties introduced each other the current development status, discipline advantages and future prospects.
CHEN Xuefeng pointed out that since the establishment of school interdisciplinary research point--Mechanical Condition Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis Laboratory led by Academician Qu Liangsheng in the 1980s, the School of Mechanical Engineering has been focusing on the interdisciplinary research layout. Especially through the "The 14th Five-Year Plan", the Institute of Engineering & Medicine Interdisciplinary Studies was established in the iAFE. The Institute aims to build an international first-class Medical-Engineering cross-platform, and conduct scientific research around two main lines of service medical diagnosis & rehabilitation and service intelligent equipment & systems. On this occasion, the First Affiliated Hospital of Jiaotong University and the School of Mechanical Engineering wholeheartedly work together to explore a new cross-cooperation model.
MA Xinge said that the hospital thought deeply about the future development due to the new crown epidemic. As a very important hospital in the northwestern region of the country, the First Affiliated Hospital of Jiaotong University, should give full play to its leading role, build a surrounding medical system, and improve the disease early warning mechanism. In the new period, new challenges and new opportunities, the integration of medical and engineering is a good starting point. We have to focus on clinical medical and engineering, using engineering thinking and methods to solve practical problems in medicine and biology. In addition, through Multi-faceted cross-cooperation, for medical problems, researching, developping and improving the medical equipment, medical consumables, medical robots, etc., to help medical standards and protect the health of people.
In the whole meeting, experts conducted lively discussions on their respective research directions and cross-cooperation points expected between medical and engineering. At the same time, the leaders of both parties conducted discussions and deployments on future cross-cooperation.
The intersection of medical and engineering is the intersection, integration and penetration of modern medical and engineering thinking. It is the deep development on the edge & intersection of disciplines and the development direction of the international frontier. It is also a way to rejuvenate the traditional engineering of research universities. It has wide demand and broad prospects.
This year is the year when the National "The 14th Five-Year Plan" is launched. The First Affiliated Hospital and the School of Mechanical Engineering will work together to implement the "5.20" commitment, adhere to the "three orientations", deepen the cross-integration, promote the construction of disciplines, help the development of medicine, and strive to achieve new breakthroughs in scientific research and talent training.
